The Entrepreneurial Element

It may seem as though entrepreneurs are born, not made, yet countless entrepreneurs with ideas as valid and promising as some of the best ever conceived will eventually fail. This leads to the obvious question of why some entrepreneurs seem destined for success while others are relegated to a life of working for someone else. There are certainly multiple uncontrollable factors that come into play for most, such as the old but so often true cliché of being in the right place at the right time and how far the individual is willing to go to succeed. In truth, however, most entrepreneurs fail because they simply have little in the way of business sense outside of the desire to start one.

If sound ideas and relentless initiative are the true entrepreneurial element that separates those willing to take chances to reap greater rewards from the rest of us, the understanding of how to run a business is the gravity that keeps all entrepreneurs from taking flight. Those who have it will be able to turn their ideas into success, while those who don’t will either fail and give up or continue on until they learn from trial and error. Unfortunately, the stakes of starting a new business make trial and error an expensive proposition.

For those serious about their business plans, it pays to be educated. Many entrepreneurs avoid education as a matter of principle, but doing so can have adverse consequences on their future endeavors. Education, in the mind of the dedicated entrepreneur, should be thought of as a means to an end. Getting a business education doesn’t compromise the entrepreneurial spirit, it simply enables ideas to flourish while increasing the odds for a successful venture.

In truth, a bachelor degree program in business administration or management is an ideal educational pursuit for someone contemplating their own enterprise, though there are several other options that will work as well. From associate’s level programs to diplomas and certificates, there are many ways to become better acclimated with business practices and acumen without committing to a full four years of college or the associated expenses.

Not only can education mean the difference between success and failure, it can also give entrepreneurs something to fall back on. Though the idea of not succeeding is something no one with the entrepreneurial element wants to even consider, it’s never a bad idea to cover all the possibilities.

How To Make Your Computer Run Faster

Over time, a relatively fast computer can lose a lot of performance due to programs you rarely use loading when Windows starts. This is a relatively small problem to alleviate and you can do it without forking over $60 to your local computer dealer! This is one way to make your computer run faster:

  1. Go to the “Start” menu and click on “Run”
  2. When a small “Run” box pops up, type “msconfig”
  3. You will be brought to a menu that says “System Configuration Utility”. Click on “Startup”
  4. Here is a list of every program that starts when windows loads. What you want to do is uncheck the programs that you don’t use often so they don’t slow you down. This does not uninstall the program; it simply keeps it from starting up when you load windows. If you don’t know what a certain program is, simply type it into Google. Take “msmsgs”, for example. When I type that into Google, I found out that it’s Windows Messenger. I don’t use that crap so it’s gone!
  5. Last but not least, if you aren’t sure about something even after looking it up on Google, just leave it alone. Better safe than sorry!
You’ll be surprised at the number of programs starting up with Windows and it should make your computer run faster. A lot of times it will make a big difference. The End.

Top 10 Anti Spyware Download Software

Technology is everything. Technology is a double edged sword. With the advent of technology, there have been many good developments. At the same time it led to destruction too. PC and Internet were the top inventions but their security is at stake.

Spyware Attack is common for every PC user. On a global scale, this problem affects almost everyone, and thus the development of a huge anti spyware industry. They have come up with various products to deal with the threat. These anti spyware software products remove or disable existing spyware on the computers they are installed on and prevent their further installation.

Many commercial firms have started conducting research on spyware and adware programs and designed anti spyware products to remove or block them. The following list shows some of the top anti spyware download software that are quiet popular in the anti spyware market.

1. Webroot’s Spy Sweeper sweeps away spyware. This anti spyware download software has received a number of PC Magazine Editors' Choice awards for spyware protection. Spy Sweeper has an extensive spyware database and currently scans for over 150,000 spyware components.

2. NoAdware anti spyware is constantly updated to identify the latest threats to your privacy. The software will scan your PC for different Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and Web Bug traces.

8. Spybot - Search & Destroy is currently released as freeware. However, the fine print of the license indicates a commercial distribution. It has been applauded for its ease of use and installation, free support and updates but it suffers from having a small spyware database.

9. Counter Spy: Besides acting as an anti spyware software, it also gives privacy protection by erasing files and clearing your web browsing history.

10. McAfee is a spectacular anti virus product and yet to develop its anti spyware software features.

Whatever may be the anti spyware software, one should download it from a reliable source. Otherwise in the name of anti spyware download, a bogus program gets downloaded that is harmful as the spyware and adware itself.

8 Tips for Great E-Mail Etiquette

As a Virtual Assistant, I send and receive a large amount of e-mail on a daily basis. I can always tell when someone is either in a rush or simply doesn’t like to type. Their messages come through with misspelled words, with little regard for punctuation and grammar. What’s worse is when the tone or meaning of the message isn’t clear.

Here are some easy rules of thumb to keep in mind when you are sending and receiving e-mail, especially for business purposes:

1) Always include a subject. If you are replying to someone else’s message, it’s okay to use what is already in the subject line. If you are the one initiating the e-mail however, you should always include a subject, even if it’s one word or a simple phrase such as “May 1 Meeting” or “Follow-up from Meeting.”

2) Pay attention to punctuation and proper grammar. You may not be the fastest typist in the world, but adding those periods and question marks where they belong will clarify the message you are sending. And don’t forget about using capitalization where needed. Proper grammar goes a long way in helping your message recipient to understand exactly what you’re trying to say.

3) Never use all capital letters. “HOW ARE YOU?” makes it seem as if you are shouting at the person. It’s okay to use caps for things like “ABC Oil Company,” but using them for anything else is not a good idea.

4) Get to the point. Your message should be short and concise. The fewer words you use, the better. No one has time to read long, drawn-out messages.

5) Be careful with attachments. If you attach a huge file to an e-mail, the person on the receiving end may have a hard time opening it or get frustrated when the message takes a long time to download to their e-mail program. Pay attention to the size of the documents you are attaching, and scale them down if necessary.

6) Use plain text in messages. Sure, HTML messages may look pretty, but everyone can relate much better to plain text, no matter which e-mail program they are using.

7) Whenever possible, reply below the message you receive. When you are replying to someone’s question in an e-mail you received, scroll down to the question they are asking or information they are inquiring about, and post your reply there. For example:

Original e-mail: “James, what is the name of that restaurant you took your client to last week?” Reply: “The Bedford Village Inn”

is much easier to read than:

Reply: “The Bedford Village Inn” Original e-mail: “James, what is the name of that restaurant you took your client to last week?”

8) Check your spelling. Remember that the spell-check feature doesn’t always work in this case, so scan your message visually before sending it.

Keeping these tips in mind when you are both sending and receiving e-mail will help your online conversations run a lot more smoothly. You’ll also be more productive and save time in the long run. Happy e-mailing!

What To Do When Your Spouse Is Diagnosed With Skin Cancer - First 5 Things You Should Do

When you get a call, like I did, from your spouse telling you his dermatologists thinks he has melanoma, the first 5 things you should do are:

1. LISTEN

Your spouse will tell you everything you need to know initially. What the doctor thinks the stage is (Melanoma is gauged in stages 1,2,3,4). No one will know for sure without a biopsy, but they have a pretty good idea.

No matter what the stage, it will have an initial distressing effect. In my case, my husband’s doctor thought it was Stage 4.

After you have the facts, there are things you yourself can do. Even if it’s a speck, melanoma is a very serious, sometimes life-threatening disease, so you will want to consider No. 2. If it is a disturbing diagnosis, you will definitely want to go to No. 2.

2. CALL ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS HAD SKIN CANCER OR KNOWS SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD SKIN

CANCER

If your friend has experienced it first hand (in the family), you will get valuable answers to the question “What do I do?”

The answers I got ranged from the hospital where the individual got treatment, the doctor who oversaw the treatment, the opinion of that treatment, where else the person got treated, the doctor who oversaw that treatment the opinion of that treatment, and any cancer organizations and/or websites you can go to learn about this disease.

3. RESEARCH

This is the most important single task you will do. And you are just beginning. You want to learn everything you can learn, because you never know what you will find that may help.

American Cancer Society AAD (American Academy of Dermatology) Institutes of Health – Skin Cancer

From one of these sources … friends, cancer organizations, internet, you will find treatment centers near where you live.

4. AFTER THE DIAGNOSIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED

At some point, you’re going to join your spouse at the doctor’s office. At this point, you will ask for a recommended Oncologist (preferably an expert in skin Cancer, but not absolutely necessary).

After a course of action has been suggested, immediately find another top

medical center and doctor for a Second Opinion. And there is nothing in the

world wrong with getting a third.

Your spouse and you consider options. Sometimes there will be more

than one option. This can be extremely anxiety provoking. There is no easy

way to deal with this. You can pray, you can ask advice, but ultimately you and

your spouse (or if your spouse is comfortable, he’ll make his own decision) will

have to come to a decision.

No matter which way you go, who decides what, sometimes there is no sure

answer.

5. AFTER THE TREATMENT

As long as there’s another day of life, and when life is at stake, you must continue researching. Researching will be your best friend.

And if you don’t like the way your doctor is handling things, or maybe he’s not showing enough interest with your spouse’s questions, or your questions, or what to do next, or anything that doesn’t feel right to you, get another doctor!

Difficult as it is, we changed doctors 3 or more times. His second dermatologist overlooked missed something so staggeringly major, I almost fainted when I discovered it. At least ten serious actions came to my mind regarding that doctor, but time and energy was needing for taking the next step.

I honestly don’t remember through what source … the paper, a person, a friend, told me about a doctor back east who, when appropriate, imported a drug from France that was going through trials that matched my husband’s circumstances. The doctor back east studied our “case”, and agreed to send the drug.

In the end, I lost my husband to the disease. And we don’t know for sure that the

drug from France helped, but we think it gave him 3 more years.

Taking Great Pictures of your Kids. Make Money Taking Pictures of Other Peopl's Kids

Taking Great Pictures of Your Kids.
Save Time and Money! Plus, Make Money Taking Pictures of Other People’s Kids!

We all know how expensive family portraits can be. We also know how time consuming it is to find a photographer in your area, who is good at what they do. Once we get the money part and the time part figured out, the kids are sick or fussy on the day of the appointment!
So, what can you do? You can learn to take your own portraits at home. This might sound complicated at first, but really it is not that hard to learn. As long as you have a digital camera, you are off to a great start.
I’m sure you are thinking, what am I going to use as a background for the portraits? Almost anything will work for a background. A white wall, a sheet hung by tacks or a curtain rod, a room divider, a blanket, a large poster, an area rug, are all great to use as a background. Always place your child at least 4 to 5 feet in front of the background. This will keep unwanted shadows of the background and will make the child stand out.
Lighting is about the most difficult to learn, but I will show you simple ways to get it accomplished. First of all, turn off your camera flash. It creates to harsh of lighting, and makes for very unflattering photos.
If you have a large window that lets in a lot of sun, you can pose your child in front of it. Just be sure to turn the child only three-quarters of the way to face the window. This will light up most of his/her face and leave the other side in shadows. Doing this will make for a more flattering picture. However, only use window lighting on a cloudy day, early or late in the day. You do not want to use direct sunlight coming from the window, it is almost like using a flash! Of course if you have some sheers hung on the window to diffuse the sunlight, than you may use it at anytime of the day.
For those of you that do not have a good window to use, I recommend shop lights (unless you can afford strobe lights, but they are more for proffesional use). Halogen shop lights (the type with two lights on a stand) run about $20.00. They are excellent for portrait lighting. Set them up about 5 feet in front of where your child will be sitting, and slightly to the side and above your child. Then hang a white sheet about 1 foot in front of the lights. This will diffuse the lights and give them a soft glowing effect.
If you would rather take pictures outdoors, here are a few tips. Make sure that you find an uncluttered background. Grass, sky, hills all work well. You can even use trees, but pay attention that there is not going to be one that looks as though it is sticking out of your child’s head in the picture. As with photographing by the window, never take a portrait of your child in direct sunlight. It will create harsh shadows and make for a very unflattering picture. Overcast days, dawn or dusk are usually great times. If that is not possible, have your child stand in the shade of a few trees or a building. Just remember to make sure there are no strange shadows on their face.

(By the way, the shop lights get very hot, so keep little fingers away and don’t get your diffusing sheet too close.)

One more tip ! Make sure you zoom in to get more of your child and less of the background.
Once you get the hang of this with your kids, you can start making money taking pictures of your friends kids!

Anti Aging Cosmetics: Taking On Father Time

Anti aging cosmetics have been used from time immemorial, as humans try to avoid the inevitable. Anti aging cosmetics, in the forms of blemish and wrinkle-concealing makeup, are at best exceedingly temporary solutions to the signs of aging to which everyone will, sooner or later, succumb. Yet anti aging cosmetics are more in demand than ever. Why?

One of the tricks which the human mind can play on itself is that it does no seem to have sense of its own chronological age. Many people continue to behave as if they were in their high school years well into their forties or even fifties. Their problem comes when their mirrors tell them something other than what their minds are telling them. The quickest way to reconcile the two versions of reality is with anti aging cosmetics.

Competing In The Workplace

Even those people who are in touch with the fact of their own aging may turn to anti aging cosmetics out of necessity, because of the need to compete in the workplace. In too many instances, the working work will favor physical youth over experience, confusing a youthful looking group of employees with an attractive company image.

Those people who may have been with a company for several years, and may have even helped it become established do not want to be shunted aside by newcomers simply on the basis of appearance. If a bit of hair color to cover the grey, or a touch of wrinkle-concealing foundation will even the playing field, they are not ashamed to use them.

Looking For Love

Finally, many people would never think of staying on the social scene without the help of anti aging cosmetics. Both life expectancy and the divorce rate are increasing, and many people who would in past decades married only once now find themselves back on the dating scene as they approach middle age, or even later.

The desire to be attractive to the opposite sex is not a matter of gender; both men and women are finding themselves in search of companionship later and later in life. The use of anti aging cosmetics may give them some much needed confidence in their search.

We live in a world which is becoming more and more the domain of the young. The growing demand for anti-aging cosmetics is one sign than of those many middle-aged and older are not going ready to give up on enjoying life just yet, and with the help of anti aging cosmetics are gong to keep living their lives to the fullest!
